John Hastings

John Hastings has been performing stand up all over his native Canada since 2006. Since winning the 2010 Irwin Barker Canadian Homegrown Championship at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, he has been nominated for a Canadian Comedy award in the category of Best Newcomer and was named one of the five “comedians to watch” by the Canadian Comedy Network.

He was the youngest featured performer at the 2011 Winnipeg Comedy Festival and was the youngest and only Canadian finalist of the 2011 San Francisco International Comedy Festival. His stand up comedy special was chosen to be the last ever, on the 15-show run of Canada’s only stand up comedy showcase program “Comedy Now.” After 6 years John also won the prestigious COCA Comedian of the year award for 2012. Now his comedic pursuits take him to the United Kingdom and he nervously okay with being here.

Oli Bettesworth

Oli has under his comedy belt: 2 Edinburgh Show’s with Laughing Horse Free Fringe and PBH’s Free Fringe in 2010 & 2012, most recently in ‘Sung and Unsung’ in which he also starred in, co – wrote and produced a sitcom. The series was a semi fictionalised account of Oli and his co – star Laurence Owen’s journey during Edinburgh Fringe 2012. Nat Luurtsema

Nat was a 2008 Chortle Best Newcomer Nominee after just eight months doing stand-up. She reached the finals of ‘Funny Women’ and the Laughing Horse’s ‘New Act of the Year’ competition, and appeared as part of the Comedy Zone at the Edinburgh Festival – the Fringe’s longest running and most prestigious showcase.

More recently Nat wrote and starred in ‘Girl Friday’, a Comedy Showcase for Channel 4 made by Objective Productions. She also has a sketch-show script in development with Eyeworks. She is also part of sketch group Jigsaw, who can be listened to on BBC Radio 4 every Wednesday at 11:15pm. Jigsaw are a sell out show and you can catch them this Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Nat has also performed her debut solo show ‘In My Head I’m a Hero‘ at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Jayde Adams

Jayde Adams is a Bristolian comedian on the London comedy and cabaret circuit and has been living in London since 2011. Mainly performing on the London Cabaret circuit Jayde has also performed in the 2012 Melbourne Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011 & 2012 and has been nominated by Time Out as one of the countries top performers in 2012. She is a favourite at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, where she performed at Duckie in 2012, her own cabaret performances. Jayde is the main host of The Painted Grin. A relaxed welcoming Westcountry charm, pessimistic jaded observations about a world in which she can’t always maintain politeness are fused with an impressive array of talents such as opera singing, dancing and sometimes beatboxing to fill in awkward moments.

MC Sam Gore

A confident and original young act with a brilliant command of language, Sam’s been wowing crowds and rapidly climbing the comedy ladder since his debut four years ago. Having cemented his position as one of the best new performers on the circuit with no less than five New Act of the Year titles (including the Hilarity Bites title in 2008), he’s gone on to impress everywhere from weekend clubs to music festivals, biker rallies and theatres.

At the Edinburgh Festival in 2010 Sam appeared in the double-header show A Calculated Risk as part of the Free Festival. In 2011 he returned to the Fringe as part of the Amused Moose Laugh-Off showcase, having won his way through to the final of that competition as well. Sam is also a hugely accomplished writer, plying his trade on shows such as Russell Howard’s Good News and Chris Addison’s Show & Tell.

At this festival in Adelaide Rob was nominated for the best newcomer award. He made his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012 with his solo show Rob Beckett’s Summer Holiday.

Here’s how it works:

++ Entrance Fee: ABSOLUTELY FREE
++ Turn up before 7pm and register. There are a maximum of 18 SPOTS. And it’s first come, first served!
++ If you’ve booked a spot in advance and are NOT there by 7.30pm, it will go to a walkin.
++ Why not bring some friends along? The bigger the audience, the better.
++ Each spot is randomly chosen and you have 5 minutes to do your stuff.
++ The evening starts at 8pm and ends at 10:30pm.
++ For an optional 5 quid, we will film your set in HD with two cameras, cut and edited!

** ACTS, THIS IS WHAT’S EXPECTED OF YOU:
Stay for the whole evening to support the other acts who supported you.
Perform a well-rehearsed 5 minutes of new material. Do not overrun, as being booted off stage can often offend.

We will prioritise walkins requiring filming. A walkin who wants filming will trump a walkin who does not.
